KEEP YOU INFORMED
In the 5 years since Mike was elected, Mike has worked hard to keep locals informed on what the Howick Local Board is doing. Mike continues to advocate for more transparency and community engagement by the local board and council organisations.

Howick Local Board now has regular "meet the board" sessions in Botany
By Mike Turinsky
The Howick Local Board official board business meetings are held at the Pakuranga Library building. I have been (along with other members) a huge advocate for increased engagement from the board to the community. Therefore this term we started having "meet the board" sessions in Botany. If you would like to know more about when these events will occur, please contact me.

Auckland Council now regularly hosts community meetings in the Botany area
By Mike Turinsky
It used to be that most meetings with council members and staff were held in Howick or Pakuranga. But this meant our subdivision, the Botany area, had to travel a greater distance just to attend these meetings.
Since I have been on the Howick Local Board, I have made sure that we have regular meetings in the Botany area. This is one way I can make sure that Botany residents can attend and ask questions directly to council members and staff.

Mike regularly attends meetings in the Botany subdivison
By Mike Turinsky
I believe there is power in turning up. Therefore, I attend a lot of meetings of community groups in the Botany subdivision. For example, I regularly attend meetings for the Ōtara Lake and Waterways Trust, the monthly meetings for GETBA (Greater East Tamaki Business Association), Botany Probus Club, Rotary Club, the Point View Heritage Association, as well as the Hilltop Heights Neighbourhood Group.
Why do I go to a lot of Botany meetings? I go because that is where I can hear from people in our area. I can listen to their point of view and ask follow up questions. It also allows me to answer questions and hear their concerns.
If you want me to visit your next meeting in the Botany subdivision (which includes Burswood, Dannemora, East Tāmaki, Flat Bush, Ormiston), please invite me. If I can, I will be there.
